New Mercedes-AMG C63 E-Performance officially teased

Heads up Mercedes-AMG fans, the famed Affalterbach-based performance arm of the renowned three-point star marque has officially teased the upcoming new Mercedes-AMG C63 E-Performance models.
The teaser’s timing is symbolic – 63 hours ahead of its planned 21 Sept reveal. Apart from the car’s basic silhouette, which doesn’t differ much from the humble C-Class compact saloon it underpins, not much else was disclosed in said teaser.
Nevertheless, the ‘E-Performance’ bit in its naming should tell you that Mercedes-AMG’s new muscle sedan will feature a new plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain – a fact confirmed by the marque prior.
The outgoing C63S model’s twin-turbo V8 (pictured below) will be replaced with a new PHEV package consisting of a 2.0-liter 4-cyl, and a 48V mild-hybrid system, the former boasting an electric turbocharger that grants 464 hp (350 kW / 470 PS). The latter sees the presence of a rear-mounted electric motor that adds another 198 hp (150 kW / 201 PS) to the rear wheels.

Altogether, the package promises a reported combined output of 661 hp – significantly more than the 500 hp that the outgoing V8 mill is capable of. It will be managed by a rear-biased and drift-friendly 4Matic+ all-wheel-drive system and a 9-speed automatic gearbox setup.
Expect more details when the new Mercedes-AMG C63 E-Performance is revealed fully later this week.
