"Ops Rentas Sempadan" Sees A Record Number Of Queue Cutting Offenders

In a three day operation, Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan (JPJ) took action against 556 road users for different offences of which 252 were for queue cutting. The operation code named “Ops Rentas Sempadan” was carried out in the Southern Zone.
According to Melaka JPJ Director, Muhammad Firdaus Shariff, the offence that was most committed throughout the operation was queue cutting. For the Southern Zone this is mostly recorded in Cheng Heights, Bertam Malim and Padang Keladi.
He goes on to add that “Emergency lanes can only be used by vehicles authorised under the Road Transport Act 1987 (RTA 1987)which includes ambulances, police vehicles, fire engines and JPJ vehicles as well when performing duty”. We would like to add that any vehicle that is facing a road emergency should also legally be able to use the emergency lane.

Firdaus also said that any queue cutting offenders can be prosecuted under the RTA 1987 which carries a fine of not more than RM2,000 and jail up-to six months. Other than that, during the operations, a total of 956 vehicles were inspected and action taken against 662 of them for various offences such as non-compliant window tinting or poor tyre conditions.
A total of four foreign nationals were also picked-up for driving without a valid driving licence. The aims of “Ops Rentas Sempadan” was to ensure the public are aware and compliant to traffic laws and safety of all alike.
