2023 BMW M2’s JDM-esque M Performance Parts Leaked Online

How does the automobile internet tackle an already controversial new car? By leaking a much more controversial looking parts upgrade of said car.
Hours within its official debut, the new 2023 BMW M2 again gets people for multiple car forums netwide talking, all thanks to the latest leak of M2’s supposed M Performance Parts upgrade.

Already sporting an opinion-splitting look, the leaked optional parts feature a complete body kit swap, with additional rear wing, carbon fibre trimmings and new set of alloys completing the said upgrade package.
An Instagram user who goes by the username @wilcoblok recently posted a series of images, depicting the second-gen M2 fully-equipped with M Performance Parts – allegedly from BMW M’s division.
On the front side, the new body kit is laden with carbon fibre parts, including the front lip equipped with side canards. The hood now sports some black stripe decals around its bulging parts, a recurring theme around the car.

From the side, there’s also black stripe decals that run from the front wheel arches to the back-window panels. However, the obvious addition is the carbon fibre wheel arch trimmings on both front and back arches, with an L-shaped side skirt panel also made from carbon fibre. Plus, the carbon-laden theme also affects the side mirrors, now sporting said composite material.

Boasting the biggest change is the back side, with the brand-new M Performance rear bumper housing M4-like quad tailpipes configuration. Around the fog lights area lies more blackened trimmings, akin to the FK8 Honda Civic Type-R – hence the JDM-inspired moniker.

Additional back side improvements include the new aggressive rear wing, with additional roof-mounted spoiler on top of the rear windshield. Not to forget, the new set of gloss black 10-spoke alloys, following the whole blackened theme of the upgrade.

The recently-launched BMW M2 is poised for a £61,495 (RM319,087) price tag, with sales expected to commence in Q2 2023. As for now, BMW posed no official statement regarding the presupposed M2 M Performance Parts.
Are these leaked parts the actual, official BMW M Performance Parts upgrade? If so, many M enthusiasts online seemed ‘upset’ with the leaks, citing it to be ‘too JDM-ish’. While some opposing camps praised BMW’s bold approach in making a statement against an array of boring, too clean looking cars nowadays – mostly dominated by futuristic-looking EVs.
