On 26 September, two Toyota Alphards filled with luxury car tires were detained by the Royal Malaysian Customs Department (JKDM) at Taman Cemerlang Lancar, Senai, Johor Bahru.
The multi-purpose vehicles (MPVs) were followed by Johor’s JKDM team from the national border at the Sultan Abu Bakar Complex (KSAB), Gelang Patah, before being arrested at 10 PM.
JKDM Johor’s director, Sazali Mohamad, remarked, "The results of the inspection by members of the Sungai Pulai Enforcement Division, JKDM Johor on the two MPVs in question found tires of various brands and sizes stuffed in them. 69 new tires, believed to be non-customs, imported from abroad. These smuggled tires are for luxury vehicles with sizes 19 inches and above."

Notably, the approximated value of the new tires smuggled illegally from the neighbouring country is said to be at MYR 41,400, with a tax amount of MYR 19,500.
"They will bring these goods through the passenger route at the entrance of the country, near to the south," he furthered.
Other than that, the two Toyota Alphards in question were also seized by JKDM Johor, worth MYR 80,000 combined.
Sazali concluded, "The two MPV drivers aged between 36 and 41 years old were arrested for further investigation in accordance with Section 135(1)(e) of the Customs Act 1967 for transporting prohibited goods without customs clearance."
