BYD Atto 3 Specs Unveiled – 2 Variants, up to 480 KM Range, from RM150K

The arrival of new tech is always coupled with few setbacks. Oftentimes, said setback comes in the form of its price tag, likely due to the huge investment required in not only fool-proofing the tech, but also to make it more accessible to the public. EV cars are no exception to this.
However, the days of astronomically-priced EV cars might be over sooner than we anticipated, with the upcoming BYD Atto 3. BYD, which stands for ‘Build Your Dream’, is an established Chinese EV manufacturer beaming with pedigree and experience, having previously collaborated with automotive giants like Toyota in creating the Toyota bZ3 EV. The Chinese EV marque is poised to debut its flagship EV SUV, the Atto 3 locally in Malaysia later in December this year.

According to a source from the “Malaysian Electric Vehicle Owners Club” Facebook group, the Malaysian-bound Atto 3 will possibly share similar specs with models from other regional right-hand-drive (RHD) markets such as Thailand and Australia. In both countries, the Atto 3 comes in two variants, those being ‘Standard’ and ‘Extended’.

The Standard variant Atto 3 boasts a 50.1 kWh battery capacity that supplies enough juice for a travel range of up to 400 KM (WLTP). Power output, on the other hand, reads at 201 HP and 310 NM. Moving on to the range-topping Extended variant, it packs a larger 60.4 kWh battery pack and, as its aptly name suggests, this variant boasts greater travel range – up to 480 KM (WLTP) – despite sharing similar power output (201 HP, 310 NM) as its lower-spec Standard siblings.

On the surface, not much separates both variants except for their wheel options – 17-inch wheels for the Standard, and 18-inch wheels for the Extended. The range-topping Extended model will also come with extra bits such as an 8-speaker audio system, powered tailgate as well as wireless charging pad.

In Australia, the Atto 3 is offered with four paint job options, with a White hue being the baseline default option whilst the other three offered as cost options at AUS$700 (RM2,147) each. In Thailand, the Atto 3 gets an additional choice of a Green hue next to the four options offered in Australia.
As for price, the BYD Atto 3 will reportedly start from RM150,000 for the Standard variant, and up to RM170,000 for the Extended variant. Mind you, these are merely rumoured estimates for now – confirmed price figures should be conveyed officially once it officially launches next month.
So, what do you think of the BYD Atto 3? Keen on what it has to offer at a rather reasonable price? Let us know your thoughts in the comments down below…
