Rapid Rail: LRT Service Interruption, Technical Issue Not ATC
It happened again, but this time the LRT service interruption at Jelatek station on Tuesday morning was due to a technical issue with the train instead of the Automatic Train Control (ATC) system.
According to Rapid Rail, the problem with the ‘tachometer’, a device used to measure train speed, occurred on train number 59, where passengers were asked to disembark and get the next train.
"Disembarking passengers is part of Rapid Rail's operating procedures to ensure the safety and smooth operation of trains. The process of removing a train from service takes about three minutes and re-adjusting the train frequency takes 10 minutes. Replacement train number 54 was put in to maintain the train frequency for five minutes while train 59, which had the problem, was taken to the Rapid Rail maintenance depot in Subang for further inspection," stated the company.
At the moment, Rapid Rail said the 'tachometer’ replacement program has started and is in the process of receiving the needed equipment.
The ordered parts will be received intermittently from now until mid-2023, however, negotiations are being done to speed up the delivery.
Besides that, a problem also occurred at the KLCC LRT station, where three of its gates were malfunctioning when train number 10 arrived at 7.53 AM.
Rapid Rail said, " We found that these doors worked normally with other trains. We have removed that train from service for further checks at the depot, and we will inspect and test the communications system between the doors and the train after service hours.”
All in all, Rapid Rail is currently working hard to amend the issues, and apologizes to the passengers for the hassles faced due to the LRT service disruption.
