Hyundai Will Only Sell EVs In Norway From Next Year
Hyundai has confirmed that it would only sell fully electric vehicles in the Norwegian market from January 1st, 2023. This makes Norway the world's first EV-only market for Hyundai.
If you look at the numbers, the daring move by one of Norway's best-selling automakers is fairly obvious. EVs have accounted for more than 90% of Hyundai's sales in Norway in recent years, making the shift easier than it appears.
Since 2020, Hyundai has committed to selling only EVs and PHEVs in Norway, abandoning the rest of the region's ICE-only lineup. Now, the automaker goes a step further by discontinuing the Tucson and Santa Fe plug-in hybrid models.
Hyundai began marketing electric vehicles in 2016 with the Ioniq, followed by the Kona Electric in 2018 and the Ioniq 5 in 2021. Hyundai unveiled the brand-new Ioniq 6 a few months ago, which will help push its EV sales even more, as seen by the significant number of pre-orders in European countries.
Hyundai will shortly debut the recently previewed latest iteration of the Kona Electric. More EVs, notably the Ioniq 7 SUV, are slated to hit the market in the near future, widening Hyundai's product lineup and covering more popular categories.
