Liberty Walk Teases Wide-bodied Ferrari F40 – Cool or Blasphemous?
As the 2023 edition of the annual Tokyo Auto Salon (TAS 2023) looms closer, renowned Japanese tuning firm Liberty Walk has prepared yet another extreme build for this upcoming edition.
Like its past efforts, this latest build, which is based on the rare and highly collectible Ferrari F40, has both stirred controversy and divided opinions.

True to its brand name and form, Liberty Walk has given their F40 build with its usual widebody fitment and ‘slammed’ extreme lowering treatment. The extreme widebody kit consists of a new front cowl, cowl duct, light cover, splitter side skirts, rear wing, diffuser, and wider fenders.

Part of the redesign sees Liberty Walk adding a large new opening to the Ferrari hood up front, as well as a single NACA duct in the centre instead of two that the original road-going F40’s design had. In fact, this is similar to the Ferrari F40 LM racer car. Apart from that, the tuner also added aerodynamic canards on the corners.
Another eye-catching modification here is the switch from the F40’s arguably iconic pop-up to a new fixed pair that’s also massive. Again, from a glance, this modification is similar to what Ferrari did with the F40 LM race car version that actively raced throughout the late 1980s and early 1990s.

To finish things off, Liberty Walk also added a new element to the rear wing, which is matched with the aforementioned new rear diffuser assemblies that flank the original oval-shaped exhaust outlet.
Liberty Walk has already set up an online sales page for this kit, but the price box simply reads ‘Ask’ at present. We’re guessing it won’t be cheap to commission, but we reckon that’s the least difficult part compared to finding someone mad enough to source for the Ferrari F40 donor car in the first place.

Amongst Ferrari fans and collectors alike, the F40 holds a special place in the brand’s ‘hypercar’ lineage, more so with the fact it was the last car personally approved by founder Enzo Ferrari in 1987 before his death in 1988. It also stood as a 1980s era supercar icon thanks to the performance delivered by its mid-mounted 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 that reportedly delivered 471 HP and 577 NM.

Apart from this extreme and divisive F40 build, Liberty Walk will have several other cars reportedly on show for TAS 2023 too. Alongside the F40, the tuner will show off a still unseen Rotary-powered Mazda build, a modified Lexus LX 600, a tuned Lamborghini Murcielago, an unseen Nissan build, as well as a special project that features a collaboration with the Playboy brand.
What do you think of Liberty Walk’s redux of perhaps one of the rarest and most coveted and collectible Ferraris ever? Cool? Blasphemous? Hit the comments below with your thoughts, folks…
