MNC Will Have To Pay More For Electricity, Subsidized Tariff Stays For Public And SME
-full_normal.jpg)
The Prime Minister announced yesterday that the initial plans to raise the electricity tariff for the general public and businesses would be scrapped for now even though the cost implications occurred from maintaining it eats substantially into the country's budget.
The premier however also added that he would be in discussion with the Minister of Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change, YB Tuan Nik Nazmi on this matter and at most only multinational (MNC) and large export-oriented conglomerates will be subjected to an electricity tariff hike.

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim also stressed that this potential hike would not be aimed at the general households and small-medium-enterprises (SMEs). The SMEs would take up the bulk cost implication amounting to almost RM30 billion a year to the country.
He however added further that the current tariff is extremely low for the MNCs as subsidies should not be provided to giant companies raking in huge profits. Having said that, any increment in tariffs for the MNCs would only be made gradually and at a reasonable pace in order to not drastically affect their operations and productions.

Should the general public be interested in checking and estimating their electricity consumption cost, there is an online calculator available by the Ministry of Natural Resources. For now you can rest assured all your electricity usage especially for the EV users will remain the same, however should there be any future tariff increment we are pretty sure there will be some form of subsidy allocated for the early EV adopters to push the idea of green mobility further.
