2023 Toyota Hilux, Fortuner & Hiace Prices Up by RM3K to RM5K
It seems like the new year car price update season hasn’t subdued just yet, as UMW Toyota has unveiled yet another price increment for some of its models. This time, said increment circulates around some of Toyota's larger, commercial-ready models, namely the Toyota Hilux, Fortuner, as well as the Hiace van.
Just like its local rival truck, Nissan Navara, the Toyota Hilux has also experienced a price hike this year. Arguably one of the best-selling pick-up trucks in the country, the 2023 year model Hilux’s price has increased by about RM3,000 for all the variants, from the base-spec single cab 2.4 MT up to the range-topping 2.8 Rogue AT variant, which now priced at RM98,800 and RM152,880 respectively.
Meanwhile, the Hilux’s ladder-frame platform twin, the 2023 Toyota Fortuner SUV, has also risen in price at a much more significant rate of RM5,000 across all its variants. The baseline 2.4 AT model now starts at RM184,880, while the mid-spec 2.7 SRZ AT model is priced at RM191,880. The top-spec Fortuner 2.8 VRZ AT now commands a RM225,880 price tag.
This increment also affects UMW Toyota’s sole commercial-only offering, the Hiace panel van. This 2.5-litre turbodiesel commercial van is due for a RM5,000 increment, resulting in its OTR price of RM113,000 for the 2023 model.
Aside from these three vehicles, prices for the 2023 Toyota Corolla Altis, Camry, as well as Corolla Cross SUV has also increased at variable rates, ranging from RM2,000 to RM10,000. In spite of the price rise, all of the 2023 Toyota models will retain its previous specifications.
This new-year price update does not curtail only to Toyota brands, as other marques like BMW, MINI and Nissan have also increased its fleet prices, though such increments are no big surprise as it truly matches the prices increase forecast projected by Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) last year.
The price hike rings true for marques that still offer fully-imported (CBU) models in their current line-up, which make them super vulnerable to the fluctuating forex rates and post-pandemic global economic recessions.
