Exercise Caution On The Road And Service Your Vehicles Before Heading Out Of Town - Road Safety Advocates

Two road safety advocacy groups are urging people to drive safely and keep their property and belongings safe from theft with the balik kampung exodus for Chinese New Year beginning this week. Datuk Seri Johny Ch'ng Ewe Gee, vice-chairman of the Malaysian Crime Prevention Foundation, advised motorists to get enough rest and plan their journeys accordingly, especially those travelling long distances. He also reminds motorists to service their vehicles ahead of time and ensure they are roadworthy apart from being aware of the reduced speed limit as announced by the authorities. The Works Ministry announced on Tuesday that the speed limit on federal and state roads across the country will be reduced by 10kph to coincide with the Chinese New Year celebration.


The temporary speed limit of 80kph on federal roads and 70kph on state roads will be in effect until January 27, according to Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi. Ch'ng also reminded drivers to be patient and to follow all traffic rules and regulations to avoid getting into trouble. Jumping queues, overtaking on double lanes, ignoring traffic lights, speeding, texting while driving, not wearing a seat belt, and misusing emergency lanes are all non-compoundable offences that will result in a traffic stop.



Meanwhile, the chairman of the Kuala Lumpur Crime Prevention Practitioners Association, Bok Siew Mun, reminded residents who were going outstation or back to their hometown to notify their neighbours so that they could help keep an eye out. If they see anyone unfamiliar loitering around the neighbourhood in a suspicious manner, they should call the police right away, according to Bok. Source: TheStar
