You Might Be Paying More At The Pump Today (30 April – 6 May)

If you pulled up to the petrol station this morning and noticed the numbers on the screen looked a little higher, you aren’t imagining things. As of today, 30 April 2026, the new weekly fuel prices are officially in effect across Malaysia.

While it’s a bit of a "mixed bag" at the station, here is everything you need to know to survive your next refuel until next Wednesday.

The Current Damage: RON97 & Unsubsidised RON95 Hit Up

Screenshot-2025-10-21-at-16.15.20.png

The Ministry of Finance (MOF) announced that prices for premium and unsubsidised fuels have taken a jump due to global market uncertainty:

  • RON97: Is now RM4.90 per litre (up 5 sen from RM4.85).
  • Unsubsidised RON95: Has seen a steeper hike of 10 sen, now costing RM3.97 per litre.
  • Diesel (Peninsular): Stays steady at RM5.12 per litre.

The "Why" Behind the Hike

You can thank the ongoing Middle East crisis for this week's price movement. According to the MOF, conflict risks in West Asia remain high, leading to supply constraints as refining facilities take time to recover.

Because Malaysia uses the Automatic Pricing Mechanism (APM), our weekly rates are tied directly to these international market fluctuations.

The Silver Lining: Protected Subsidies

Despite the hike in unsubsidised rates, the Madani government is still shielding the majority of the rakyat from the full brunt of global prices:

  • BUDI95 (Subsidised RON95): Still capped at RM1.99 per litre for those eligible.
  • East Malaysia Diesel: Remains maintained at RM2.15 per litre in Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan.
  • Essential Sectors: Prices for the Subsidised Petrol Control System (SKPS) and Diesel Control System (SKDS) are also staying put at RM2.05 and RM2.15 respectively.

The government is urging everyone to "use fuel prudently" while they work to ensure national supply stability amidst the global chaos.
