Mercedes-Benz to Adopt Nvidia Omniverse Platform in Future Facilities
![]()
Renowned German automaker Mercedes-Benz has partnered with tech giant Nvidia in adopting Nvidia’s Omniverse system to improve its production facilities’ efficiency. This partnership will see Mercedes using Nvidia’s advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) and metaverse technologies in designing and planning the marque’s future production facilities.
This revelation was announced at the ongoing Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2023, taking place at Las Vegas, US. The two entities will roll out the Omniverse implementation at Mercedes-Benz’s Rastatt plant in Germany, where it is currently overseeing productions for the A-Class, B-Class, GLA and the EQA EV.

Mercedes and Nvidia insist that this ‘test-run’ won’t interfere or affect the current production scale and rate of the Rastatt plant. Should this run turn out to be fruitful, the rest of Mercedes-Benz’s production networks across the globe will follow suit in adopting the Nvidia Omniverse system.

The Omniverse system, developed by Nvidia, is an advanced 3D development platform that garners any companies or entities to build and operate digital twins of their pre-existing production facilities. Said digital twin will act in accord with the actual plant, thus providing a whole new avenue for companies like Mercedes-Benz to improve and optimise its production facilities, without having to tear down or renovate their existing facilities, which surely will hinder current productions.
The Omniverse allows instant changes which can easily be evaluated and validated, rather than having to deal with the actual brick-and-mortar of the production facilities in the real world. Once the companies decide what’s best, only then the real-world implementation takes place, thus saving them valuable time and money.

With Mercedes-Benz now adopting the Omniverse, the German marque has been granted the ability to synchronise plant locations across its vast global production network. This synchronisation not only helps in streamlining Mercedes-Benz’s global operations, but also allows for over-the-air software updates for the manufacturing equipment to take place.
