Refreshed 2023/2024 Mazda2 Unveiled

It seems the third generation Mazda2 sub-compact – also known as the Demio in its Japanese home market – is set to live on for a few more years. In fact, Mazda has given this B-segment offering of theirs a light refresh.
To refresh your memory, Mazda first debuted the third generation Mazda2 (chassis code: DJ/DL) back in 2014 in both hatchback and sedan forms. The Hiroshima-based automaker has continually updated the model from time to time over the years, culminating in this latest effort revealed in Japan this week.

Alterations are limited overall, but they’re also welcoming. The most obvious change can be seen in the front fascia which now encompasses a revised grille design finished in either black or the same colour as the rest of the exterior.
Mazda’s designers also incorporated a tiny coloured accent on the grille finished in either yellow or red, depending on the model grade. All hatchback models, as well as the Mazda2 GT Sedan, get redesigned rear bumpers, though the redesign on this part is very subtle and almost unnoticeable just like the front grille’s treatment.

The exterior refresh continues with the addition of two new colour choices - Aero Grey Metallic Airstream Blue Metallic – thus seeing a total of nine hues available. Gloss black-finished roof, on the other hand, is a treatment reserved for the Pure SP model grades instead.

On board, changes made to the cabin are subtle too, but there are arguably more noticeable. The choice between Pure White, Mirror Black, or Mint trim colours are now offered for the Pure and Pure SP grades. Evolve and GT variants, on the other hand, gain a black interior with red highlights for the seat stitching and air vent surrounds instead.
Otherwise, things remain as before. This refreshed Mazda2 will continue to offer partial leather seats, a red and black dash motif, polished dual exhaust tips, and an aero-inspired multi-spoke wheel design. Lastly, all grades except for the Pure variant also get a new shark fin antenna completing its aesthetic refresh.
Aesthetics aside, no details surrounding powertrain and price were released, though the model is expected to retain the 1.3-litre and 1.5-litre petrol, plus 1.5-litre diesel Skyactiv 4-cyl powertrains as it has been offered with since 2014. Sales, on the other hand, is reportedly set to start in the Australian market first beginning June this year.
