Sporty And Rugged Mazda BT-50 LE Unveiled In Australia

Think the current third-generation (TF) Mazda BT-50 isn’t rugged or sporty enough? Well, you’re not alone. Pictured here is the new-for-2023 Mazda BT-50 LE variant that just debuted in the Australian earlier market this week, and it gets a sportier and more rugged aesthetic redux over the base BT-50.

In said market, the BT-50 LE variant is presented as a new  four-wheel-drive (4x4) offering that slot between the XTR and the GT trimlines of the BT-50 dual-cab range, though it commands a higher AUS$64,295 (approx. RM191,021) base price tag over the range-topping GT variant mentioned.

The premium is reflected in much of the sporty and rugged new kit the LE is primed with. Most notable here is the integration of a polished bull bar that was locally engineered and specially designed not to hinder the crumple zones, airbag, and various safety assistance systems primed on board.

Said bull bar gets matched with stainless steel polished sports bar with an integrated brake light, as well as a tub liner for the flatbed – relative luxuries when it comes to pick-up trucks as such.

Unlike the XTR variant slotted below it, Mazda Australia offers the BT-50 LE exclusive in 4x4 form powered by a 3.0-litre 4-cyl turbo-diesel mill that offers 140 kW (188 HP) and 450 NM. It also gets paired solely with a six-speed automatic transmission.

On board, much of the Australian-spec BT-50 XTR trimline’s luxuries are present such as dual-zone climate control, satellite navigation, keyless entry, rear-view camera, not forgetting both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.

In terms of colour choice, this sporty and rugged offering comes dressed exclusively in Ingot Silver Metallic. Mazda Australia have begun taking orders for this variant and plans to commence deliveries in said market starting next month.

“With the new Mazda BT-50 LE, we’re offering the best of both worlds – an enhanced and individual look, combined with even more added versatility,” said Mazda Australia’s MD Vinesh Bhindi about the new BT-50 LE variant.

Are you digging this sporty and rugged Aussie redux of the current Isuzu D-Max-based Mazda BT-50? Hit the comments below with your thoughts, and whether local Mazda custodians Bermaz should consider offering this here to take the fight up against things like the new Ford Ranger and such…
