Video: Hydrogen Powered Train Deployed In China
Germany introduced the first hydrogen-powered trains in August of this year. Now, on December 28, 2022, the Chengdu CRRC production facility in Xinjin, Chengdu, saw the first independent hydrogen-energy urban train in China roll off the assembly lines.
This train was jointly constructed by CRRC Changchun Railway Co and Chengdu Rail Transit, and its operation was showcased in November 2022 in the automobile exhibition area of the 5th China International Import Expo (CIIE).
Hydrogen Energy is a clean, zero-carbon renewable energy source, and this train, which includes a built-in hydrogen power system, will have a range of 600 kilometres. It can reach a top speed of 160 km/h.
China's hydrogen-powered train seats 1,502 passengers and incorporates the newest features such as autonomous wake-up, start/stop, and return to depot. It will also have intelligent monitoring systems and sensors, 5G train-to-ground connection, and bio-data analysis to ensure the train's safety criteria are met.
There are extensive ambitions in China to push this idea even farther. The country intends to launch approximately 50,000 hydrogen fuel cell vehicles by 2025, with an annual target of 1,00,000-2,00,000 tonnes of hydrogen produced from renewable energy.
