Face-lifted 2023 Hyundai i10 Supermini Revealed In The EU

Besides refreshing the Elantra sedan in its home market of South Korea, Hyundai have also refreshed its venerable i10 supermini offering for Europe this week. Like the sedan mentioned, the 2023 Hyundai i10 sports mild exterior styling tweaks all around too.

By the way, the move sees Hyundai renewing its commitment in the region’s small urban car market segment – most automakers have ditched the space with their combustion-powered offerings at least whilst some have since switched to electric power.

Back the refreshed i10 supermini and, besides light exterior restyling, there are new colour combinations and additional on board features present too whereas the N Line flagship trim also remains part of the range.

Unlike the initial iteration that debuted in 2019, this 2023 model refresh sees the supermini rocking new honeycomb-shaped DRLs on the grille, replacing the previous round units. There’s also new pattern for the grille and lower bumper intake, plus fresh LED taillight graphics, new 15-inch alloy wheels, as well as two new colours -– Lumen Grey and Meta Blue.

Changes are much less visible in the sporty N Line flagship as it only gets new 16-inch alloy wheels plus the updated lights design in this refresh. Apart from that, the version-specific aerokit has been carried over, thus retaining this flagship trimline’s sporty aesthetics.

Onboard, Hyundai have added new blue ambient lighting on the footwells, and a “triple red line fabric” for the seat backs of the i10 N Line. The base i10 gets a new “Purple Package” instead that adds a purple flavor to the tartan fabric seats, stitching, air vents, and a purple sheen on the grey touchpoints.

As for tech, this refresh adds a new 4.2-inch digital instrument panel, as well as an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen offering wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, rear-view camera, OTA updates for the maps, a wireless charging pad, front and rear USB-C ports, plus a heightened Hyundai Smart Sense ADAS package.

Hyundai didn’t release details on powertrain updates, but it is assumed that there are no changes here. The model is expected to continue offering the choices between a1.0 MPi 3-cyl with 66 HP, a 1.2 MPi 4-cyl with 83 HP, and a turbocharged 1.0 TGD-i outputting 99 HP. The latter is primed in the N Line flagship, which also gets a sports suspension kit added.

Production of the refreshed Hyundai i10 will commence in April at Hyundai’s plant in Izmit, Turkey, followed by deliveries in Europe beginning in the second half of the year.

Locally, Hyundai Sime Darby Motors (HSDM) last offered the first-gen Hyundai i10 supermini up until 2017 at least, albeit with an Inokom badge instead as it was locally assembled (CKD). The firm opted not to offer the supermini in its second-gen form despite the rather good reception received by its Kia-badged twin the Picanto.

Would you fancy the refreshed i10 supermini in either base or sporty N Line forms as featured should it be offered in our market? Hit the comments below with your thoughts…
