Multi Lane Fast Flow (MLFF) Toll Collection To Be Implemented In Malaysia Soon

Multi Lane Fast Flow (MLFF) implementation was discussed in a meeting with all 32 tolled highway concessionaires, as well as with relevant industry players and stakeholders, according to tweets from works minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.
The idea of implementing an MLFF system in Malaysia is not new and has been discussed previously. The government stated in 2009 that the system was being tested and that a proposal would be ready by the end of the year. Later that year, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) began proof of concept work on an MLFF system at a Technology Park Malaysia site.

For the record, the MLFF system is one of the projects included in the Intelligent Transport System (ITS) Master Plan 2019–2023 of the Works Ministry, which was created to advance the growth of IPS applications in the nation.

Radio-frequency identification (RFID) and an automated number plate recognition (ANPR) system are used to collect toll payments in the barrier-free tolling system, which uses a gantry structure without specific booths or lanes.
“Overall, all industry players are welcoming the move towards MLFF with open arms, and a few details are currently being fine tuned to ensure that the system will provide the best service for consumers. I will share more soon,” he said.

While no timetable has been provided, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, the previous senior works minister, stated in October last year that the new toll collection system would be implemented by 2025.
