Rolls-Royce's Future Models Will Be All-Electric Beginning In 2030

The Spectre, Rolls-Royce's first series-produced electric vehicle, will not be the company's last. The BMW-owned company announced that every new car it launches after 2030 will be electric-only. "We also made the decision that this car you could not get electric and combustion. The Spectre is only electric. All future Rolls-Royces, new ones, will be only electric while maintaining what Rolls-Royce stands for. This should be the most dynamic RR ever in history. And it is," CEO Muller-Otvos said in an interview with Car Magazine.
However, Muller-Otvos confirmed that combustion-engined Rolls-Royces, such as the Cullinan, Ghost, and Phantom, will continue to be available for several years.

He believes that Rolls-Royce's transition to electric power will be seamless because their vehicles are already known for their smooth, quiet, and ‘torquey’ driving experience. He also sees electric power as a good fit for the brand and its customers, who mostly live in city centres and drive short distances.
The CEO also mentioned that the automaker decided to go with classical Rolls-Royce proportions ; monolithic, great stature, and proudly bearing the pantheon grille. "It drives like a Rolls-Royce, it accelerates like a Rolls-Royce, it wafts like a Rolls-Royce ... it has all of the same materials — while being electric," Muller said.
That is not to say that Rolls-Royce's design team is stuck in a rut. The modular platform that underpins the Spectre will serve as the foundation for future EVs, and Muller told Car and Driver that he is open to experimenting with "very different technologies" and "different shapes," though he did not provide specifics. The Spectre, the company's first electric vehicle, was released in October. It's positioned as the Phantom coupe's successor, with classic Rolls proportions and an eye towards the future.
Rolls-Royce expects the Spectre will be able to drive for up to 260 miles on a charge. That's not much, but according to the company, driving range isn't a major concern for its customers. They mostly drive in cities and have access to charging stations at home and at work. The future of the Rolls-Royce brand is certainly electric as transition to electric mobility is consistent with the brand's heritage, as the founders, Rolls and Royce, were both interested in new applications of electricity in vehicles.
“Electric is the future. It will happen,” Muller said. While Rolls-Royce has not yet released full details about its planned electric lineup, Car Magazine believes that work on an electric Cullinan has already begun.
