2024 Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe Debuts with MHEV Powertrain & Elevated Look

Mercedes-Benz has finally peeled the camouflage drape off, as the marque officially debuted the all-new 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe. Slightly larger than the model it replaces, this coupe SUV sports an elevated exterior look that hides the major renovation done on its innards.

In its sole 300 4Matic form (as for now), the new GLC Coupe employs the same 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cyl mill carried over from the C253-gen GLC Coupe, now featuring a 48-Volt mild hybrid (MHEV) system that delivers a total output of 255 HP and 400 NM.

Visually, the new GLC Coupe features an ‘elevated’ exterior design, while maintaining some of the previous gen’s GLC Coupe design cues, especially the sporty, slanting roofline that carries its namesake. New exterior highlights include the updated front fascia with slimmer, more angular LED headlights, AMG-style three-star pin chrome grille and rugged front skid plate – the last two courtesy of the AMG Line styling package that comes standard to the 300 4Matic range.

At the rear, the GLC300 Coupe is primed with new LED taillights, also with slimmer and more angular design. In charge of ‘slimming’ down this chunky SUV’s rear facade is the  matte-finished underbody cladding, plus an aggressive-looking rear diffuser-esque skid plate that surrounds its dual tailpipes – all imbued with chrome.

The side profile of the new GLC Coupe remains pretty much the same, featuring the signature coupe SUV silhouette. It also rides on a set of 19-inch wheels as standard, with an option to upsize for 20-inch ones.

On board, the 2024 GLC Coupe features a brand-new cabin space that matches some of Mercedes-Benz’s new models, including the new C-Class we’ve recently reviewed. Primed on its front dash is the new massive 11.9-inch portrait-oriented infotainment screen, powered by the latest MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) infotainment suite. Drivers will get a new and bigger 12.3-inch floating instrument cluster display that ‘hides’ behind the sporty steering wheel, wrapped in grippy leather.

To make space for the bigger, central-mounted screen, Mercedes-Benz had to sacrifice the old infotainment control pad that is usually positioned on the central console – yet another feature common in most latest-gen Mercedes models.

The now mandatory AMG Line package also bestowed the new GLC Coupe cabin with extra amenities, such as heated seats for all passengers, wireless charging pad, as well as Burmeister 3D surround sound system.

The slightly upsize treatment grants the new GLC Coupe with roomier cabin and cargo spaces, with the latter now measured at 544-litre, which is an improvement over the previous-gen model.

The 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe is poised to commence deliveries by the end of this year, with an AMG version of it expected to be launched later in 2024. In our local market space, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM) only offers the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version of the C253-gen GLC Coupe, dubbed as the GLC300e Coupe PHEV, with the non-electrified GLC300 4Matic version already phased out years before.
