2024 Volkswagen ID.3 Facelift Debuts with Minor Styling Updates

Volkswagen has officially unveiled the facelifted version of its compact EV hatchback, the ID.3. Dubbed as the “second-generation” ID.3 by the marque, the facelifted hatch does not warrant many changes to be considered as such, as it only received minimal styling updates, including a refreshed cabin space made of recycled materials.

Though much of its exterior remains unchanged from the original model, the facelifted ID.3 rocks a brand-new front bumper with an optimised intake and active shutter system. Said new bumper now features a stylish air curtain that not only gives the EV hatch a sportier look, but also functional in improving air flow around its front wheels.

On the rear part, the facelift treatment sees the ID.3 taillights being revised with cross-hatch pattern on its brake lights, as well as the addition of dynamic turn signal lights.

The facelifted ID.3 rides on a set of new aero-optimised alloy wheels finished in two-tone black and silver hues. Aside from the wheels, the hatch also comes with a two-tone exterior finish, courtesy of the black roof with matte silver trim on the edges.

Moving on to the cabin, Volkswagen have implemented a slew of improvements based on the complaints and suggestions by the owners. The facelifted ID.3 cabin is now completely animal-free, with bulk of the materials used for the upholstery and finishing are recycled, including the Artvelours Eco microfibre and many soft-touch materials primed on its dash and door cards.

The new ID.3 still retains the dual display layout, with the infotainment screen now measuring at 12 inches compared to 10-inch on the previous model. The infotainment system now features several changes in the menu structure, with easier menu navigation and more informative charging menu. Apart from that, the smart Electric Vehicle Route Planner system has also been updated and improved, all powered by two high-performance computers known as ICAS (In-Car Application Servers).
Unfortunately, VW has yet to fully address and resolve the haptic touch control issue that bugs many customers, as the marque still retains the multi-touch controls on the steering wheel.

On the performance front, the facelifted ID.3 is still primed with the same rear-mounted single electric motor rated at 201 HP (150 kW) and 310 NM. This powertrain setup enables the ID.3 to despatch from nought to 100 KM/H in 7.3 seconds, while enroute to a governed V-max of 160 KM/H. Power is provided by a 58 or 77-kWh lithium-ion battery pack that provides a maximum travel range of 426 KM and 546 KM respectively.
The facelifted Volkswagen ID.3 is poised for delivery in Q4 2023 for customers in Europe, with price starting at €43,995 (RM208,896).
