Report: Audi TT And VW Scirocco Could Return As EVs Using Porsche Platform

It appears that both the Volkswagen Scirocco and Audi TT will live on to see new fourth-generation iterations, albeit as EV sportscars.
It seems both the Audi TT and Volkswagen Scirocco might live to see new fourth-generation iterations in the near future where they will be reborn as electric (EV) sportscars. Moreover, both these succeeding models will underpin a Porsche-developed EV platform, reports Autocar UK.
As a refresher, the sleeker coupe-like and Golf-based (A5 platform) third-gen VW Scirocco hatch was axed from VW’s line-up in 2017. Similarly, the third-gen Audi TT, which also shared a similar Golf-derived platform (MQB), went out of production last year in Nov 2023.

Volkswagen last offered the Scirocco, which underpins the same A5 platform as the sixth-gen VW Golf hatch, back in 2017.
However, Autocar UK reports that parent company Volkswagen are studying internal design, engineering and manufacturing proposals for both to return in an almost certain EV-only future. It will even see the Scirocco don 1970s-inpsired styling to boot.
The rebirth of both the TT and Scirocco is widely tipped to form part of discussions about a four-way EV sportscar project that also involves the upcoming fourth-gen Porsche Boxster/Cayman duo. Even a production version of the Cupra Dark Rebel concept coupe is included, alleges a ‘high ranking’ insider source to the UK publication.
The same source alludes these foursome could be launched by the year 2028, pending the green light from Volkswagen CEO Thomas Schäfer. Altogether, the move aligns with parent company Volkswagen’s ultimate am of full electrification of its entire line-up by the year 2030. Moreover, the switch to a Porsche-developed platform also somewhat makes sense.

The third-gen Audi TT coupe which, like the VW Scirocco, is also based on the MQB platform as the seventh-gen VW Golf, just went out of production in Nov 2023.
Sometime this year, full-electric versions of both the Cayman coupe and Boxster drop-top are expected to debut. Both underpins the new Porsche Premium Platform Electric (Porsche PPE) base which, naturally, befits as the foundation of a two-door coupe creation – it clearly boasts the required stiffness to also spawn a convertible offshoot of the TT too.
The same platform currently serves as the base for the upcoming electric Cayman and Boxster mentioned. Supporting the coupe-friendly speculation of this base is its low floors, which would allow different wheelbase lengths, width, as both rear- (RWD) and all-wheel-drive (AWD) setups, The same report notes it can also house a single, dual, or triple-motor setup even.
