Govt To Enhance Public Transportation Through Strategic Framework

In accordance with the recent official launch of MRT Putrajaya Line, the Malaysian government plans to outline a strategic public transportation framework spearheaded by transport minister Anthony Loke.
According to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, he mentioned the said plans will be government's major focus next year as this year the education and healthcare sectors comes ahead of its prioritisation.

Once the framework is ready, it will be presented to the cabinet which is expected for further and thorough discussion as part of improving the public transportation industry.
“I would like to once again thank the transport minister who is preparing a more comprehensive framework and strategy for public transportation that will be presented to the Cabinet which then be implemented in stages,” Anwar told reporters during his speech at the launch of the Putrajaya Mass Rapid Transit Line (MRT2) Phase Two yesterday.

Anwar believes that a well-defined public transportation network would go a long way towards alleviating traffic congestion, which could have an impact on the country's productivity.
He claimed that billions of dollars are lost in productivity due to severe congestion, citing a Bangkok study he had read.
He then remarked the time taken to reach the workplace is time that causes productivity to be lost. The answer to that issue is public transportation, Anwar added.
