MRT Putrajaya Line Get 300 Pax Capacity Women’s Coach
Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd CEO Amir Hamdan announced recently that the MRT Putrajaya Line's women's coach service began operations starting Monday, April 8.
This project seeks to give female passengers, who make up as much as 60% of rail travellers, a more pleasant and safe ride. The two special women's coaches can carry between 300 and 400 people on each trip.
As per MRT’s usual approach, distinctive pink stickers are placed at 36 stations and adorned on 49 trains on the MRT Putrajaya line. This is meant to clearly denote and indicate the designated coaches positioned in the middle of each train. Also, the move aligns the success of the women's coach service on the MRT Kajang line, which launched last year.
Amir also emphasised that the women's coach service has been very well received, pointing out that the number of sexual harassment complaints on the MRT Kajang line has decreased from an average of 3.2 instances per month down to two cases per month.
Furthermore all trains and stations will be periodically checked by auxilary police (Polis Bantuan) to ensure that the use of women's coaches is being followed in accordance with its rules. The MRT Kajang line previously saw quite a number of incidents where the women’s coach were occupied by men.
