Lamborghini’s First EV Model Will Be A 2+2 Grand Tourer, Says its Boss

After unveiling its first-ever electrified production model, Lamborghini has confirmed that they are currently working on a full-blown all-electric model, set to arrive by the end of this decade. This first-ever Lambo EV will spearhead the brand’s effort towards achieving its goal to cut carbon emissions by 80%, with the rest of its line-up following suit with partial electrification.

Lamborghini President & CEO Stephan Winkelmann

During the debut of the Raging Bull’s latest V12 flagship, the Revuelto, Lamborghini President and CEO Stephan Winkelmann has revealed that this new EV model will be a 2+2 grand tourer, instead of a crossover SUV. Speaking to Motor1 during said event, Winkelman added that this fourth model will complete the marque’s current line-up, which comprises of two super-sport cars and a single SUV model.

“It’s going to be a new body style, because what is missing in the lineup today is a GT 2+2, and I think this would be a good add-on to the two super-sports cars and the SUV,” said the Lamborghini president.

Lamborghini Urus, the marque's first SUV model

Following this revelation, Lamborghini has posted a new clarification statement that says this new model won’t be sporting any off-roading capabilities like its current SUV model, the Urus. Previously, several rumours have been circulating around the automotive industry, citing that the new Lambo EV will boast more ground clearance compared to its supercars for better practicality and usability.

As we mentioned earlier, this all-electric Lambo GT won’t be the sole electrified Lambo models, as the marque is planning to electrify its whole line-up, starting off with the recently-launched Revuelto V12 flagship. This will be followed by the Urus SUV, which is due for a mid-life refresh next year, possibly also featuring a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain, just like the Revuelto. And finally, the replacement model for the Huracan will also feature some electrified pedigree.

Although the automaker has yet to share any other details on this new EV model, it is safe to bet that the Lambo EV GT will borrow much of its styling cues from the Revuelto, which features a slew of Y-motif design elements. Apart from that, it’s also possible to see the new EV model boasting the sophisticated axial-flux electric motor technology found in the Revuelto’s front axle, which provides more efficiency compared to conventional radial-flux electric motors.

Though this cutting-edge motor will grant the new EV with better performance, it won’t likely dethrone either one of the Lambo supercar twins as the marque’s best performance model. Lamborghini still believes the EV technology is not quite there yet to overtake supercars, especially in terms of performance per se.
