Tesla’s New Vision-Based Park Assist Feature

Tesla Inc rolls out a new feature for its electric vehicles – Tesla Vision-Based Park Assist. This includes the feature to estimate objects' distance around vehicles, in a bid to make parking in tight spaces much more convenient.

Aptly, this system will utilise the company’s vision-based occupancy network and its vehicle cameras to estimate distance to any object surrounding a Tesla in any direction.

Available through a software update, this new feature is likely to be compatible with only Model 3 and Model Y. Adding on to that, the Tesla Vision Park Assist comes in the latest 2023 6.9 software update plus benefits other models that are available with ultrasonic sensors.

However, the automaker stopped offering ultrasonic sensors on both Model 3 and Model Y cars in October last year which then followed by Model S and Model X in early 2023.

From there, the newly advanced system also provides visual and audio alerts of surrounding objects using its occupancy network to predict high-definition (HD) outlines of those objects.

The company remarked in a statement going on saying that Tesla Vision Park Assist is for guidance purposes only which do not work as a substitute for an experienced driver. Thus, although said system does provide audio and video, it appears that there’s no automation involved especially for parking assistance.

International news online also reported that Tesla is ready to push a major Autopilot update in the coming days which confirms the Vision-Based Park assist feature to reach North America, Europe, and China.

Speaking of Tesla Model 3, the EV carmaker recently announced on Wednesday (March 29) a $7,500 (approx. RM33K) tax credit will be charged as its model has been reduced since January. This leads to the tax reduction to take place for Model 3 rear-wheel drive by March 31.
