Leaked: 2024 MINI Cooper EV Caught Completely Undisguised

The new generation MINI hatchback has been spied completely undisguised this week. Notably, the car pictured here is the all-electric (EV) version, which was spotted undergoing a filming session in America.
The all-new MINI Cooper SE, as it will officially be known, takes big steps forward over the existing model by featuring a new and bespoke EV platform. While it sports a fresh design channeling MINI’s iconic and signature design cues, plenty of notable changes can still be spotted.

Key amongst which is the completely redesigned rear end that sports a fresh new tailgate design plus a pair of new taillights. The latter vastly differs from the Union Jack-themed units primed in the current outgoing model, sporting more of triangular look now.
Up front, things look rather familiar with the dual round headlamps flanking the striking front grille and intake. For this EV version spied, we can see much of the intake has been shuttered – typical of any EVs. Evidently, both the combustion- and electric-powered new generation MINI will look similar.

Prior to this recent sighting, spyshots of the interior had already hit the web to show a fully revised interior as well. Key touches include the presence of a head-up display (HUD), which likely supplements the new central screen that (presumably) offers both instrumentation and infotainment display and controls.
The leaked images also indicates that the car caught filming is the hotter Cooper SE variant, which is set to feature a larger 54 kWh battery pack as opposed to the base Cooper E variant’s smaller 40 kWh unit. In turn, this should also see the Cooper SE offer up to 402 KM in range (approx. 322 KM for the Cooper E).

Current-gen MINI Cooper SE, known as the MINI Electric here in Malaysia.
Crucially, those figures mark significant jumps over the existing MINI Cooper SE (sold as the MINI Electric here in Malaysia). In fact, the hotter Cooper SE almost doubles up from the current MINI Electric’s 28.9 kWh battery rating and claimed 232 KM range.
Unlike its combustion twin that will be produced at the existing BMW plant in Oxford, UK, fully electric variants as the one spied will be produced In China instead. This largely stems from the fact that the bespoke platform it underpins was jointly developed by parent BMW with Great Wall Motor (GWM).

Whilst fully undisguised sightings as such are rare, they do happen occasionally especially during bouts of promotional filming as what this Cooper SE was presumably undergoing. Moreover, catching a rather ‘complete’ car as this instance likely indicates that an official launch is set to happen very soon.
