Takata Recall: PHSAM Recalls Selected 2008 to 2017 Audi Models
Heads up Audi owners, PHS Automotive Malaysia (PHSAM) has initiated a recall effort today to address potentially faulty – and perhaps deadly – Takata airbags. The recall affects select models only, with PHSAM identifying up to 2,767 Audi vehicles affected by this recall.
Amongst the affected the models are the Q5 SUV and TT sports coupe.
More specifically, cars affected here include the A4 Sedan, A5 Sportback, A6 Sedan, Q5, and the TT Coupe sold between 2008 and 2017. These models are fitted with Takata airbags, or the gas generator for the airbag unit, located on the driver's side, passenger side and the curtain, that could be faulty.
Also affected are the Audi A6 sedan (left) and the A7 Sportback four-door coupe.
A rather popular model affected by this latest recall is the Audi A4 sedan.
Based on the manufacturer’s latest update, there’s a possibility that the gas generator housing may be damaged if the airbag is deployed. This, in turn, could cause small metal parts to become dislodged from the housing and become shrapnel, thus posing a serious safety risk for all occupants on board.
PHSAM urges customers of cars and models affected by this recall to contact their nearest Audi Centre to schedule a complimentary inspection and replacement if necessary, of the Takata airbag and related parts as soon as possible.
“Although we have determined the number of vehicles for this recall, it's possible that not all of them will need replacement parts. We want to encourage customers to get their vehicles inspected at our service centres for better peace of mind,” said Erik Winter, Managing Director of PHSAM.
Customers uncertain whether their Audi vehicle is affected by this recall campaign are advised to visit the Audi Malaysia website. Alternatively, customers can contact Audi Customer Service at 1-800-22-2834 or via email to [email protected].
On a side note, PHSAM also pointed out that Owners of vehicles ages 5 years and older are eligible for the recently launched Audi Plus programme. This latest after-sales package offers 10% off maintenance service at any Audi Centre.
Additionally, customers will also receive 3 service discount vouchers, which are applicable within a period of 3 years after the 5th year of service. Included too is a complimentary Audi Roadside Assistance nationwide coverage lasting for up to 12 months from the date of voucher redemption.
