There Are Plans To Digitise Vocational Driving Licence - Loke

According to Anthony Loke, plans for the digitalization of vocational driving licences are in the works.
The Transport Minister stated that the Public Service Vehicle (PSV) and Goods Driving Licence (GDL) would go digital in the future as part of the ministry's push to digitalize the nation's transportation ecosystem.
"We have already finished digitising both road tax and driving licences, with PSV and GDL to follow later."
"Eventually, everything will be digitalised," he told reporters after attending a PSV ehailing licence handover ceremony at the ministry's office here on Tuesday (April 18).
Loke stated that, for the time being, all vocational candidates will be required to have a physical licence, but the ministry will work with industry players to make it easier for candidates to obtain their licences.
"We intend to work with ehailing service providers to explore the possibility of delivering the licence to riders without requiring them to personally collect them from Road Transport Department (JPJ) counters," he said.
After Loke announced the removal of the requirement on April 10, the first batch of 300 PSV candidates received their licences without having to take a theory test.
The exemption, according to Loke, has significantly reduced the time required to obtain a vocational licence while also reducing the ministry's backlog of candidates.
"The average time to obtain a licence has been reduced from three months to just over a week."
"This new efficiency will hopefully allow us to clear our backlog of over 2,000 candidates within the next few days before Hari Raya," he said.
