Update Of Malaysian National Automotive Policy Needs Time To Review - Tengku Zafrul

According to the minister of investment, trade, and industry, Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz, the National Automotive Policy (NAP) update requires more time to be reviewed because stakeholder engagement sessions are still ongoing.
The plan is to ensure that Malaysia's automotive policies are in line with recent developments in science, technology, and innovation; as a result, any changes will not be made public until solid plans are in place, he stated.

"There have been a lot of developments in the automotive industry, so we're still taking feedback from stakeholders and industry players." "We need to pay attention to what was in the NAP prior to this as well," Zafrul said.
"I'll be meeting with agencies and ministries to go over the points raised by the industry participant about technological advancements in the automotive sector because we need to be flexible and willing to make the necessary changes." "We hope to remain competitive and relevant. As a result, the discussion of NAP changes is premature at this time", he added. According to observers, the 2020 NAP needs to be updated so Malaysia can keep up with changes in the automotive industry and remain relevant and competitive in the market.
In response to growing environmental, social, and governance demands around the world, a call was made for the National Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy to be updated in addition to NAP 2020 in order to promote its adoption in Malaysia. "I believe that any long-term plans, such as the National Automotive Policy's 10-year timeline, must be flexible." Tengku Zafrul continued, "Reviews and discussions will be held in order for us to excel in this area."” Any long-term plans, such as the National Automotive Policy, should, in my opinion, be open to revision.
