The BMW CE 04 at the Malaysia Autoshow 2023.

The local two-wheel electromobility segment has grown a bit today here at the Malaysia Autoshow 2023, as BMW Motorrad Malaysia launches its first-ever electric bike, the BMW CE 04. Interestingly, this EV scooter also stands as the sole electrified option from any big bikes brands in Malaysia, apart from being the brand’s first.

Previewed earlier this year, the CE 04 stands as a rather sizable maxi-scooter, measuring 2,285 MM long, 855 MM wide, with a wheelbase of 1,675 MM. And just like its four-wheel counterpart, this EV bike is a heavy one, too, tipping the scale at 231 KG (dry weight).

On display at the Malaysia Autoshow 2023 alongside the the CE 04 is BMW Motorrad's flagship R18 cruiser model.

But more importantly, the CE 04 is a perfect bike for those who like to stand out in a crowd, as it looks nothing like what’s available in our local bikes market. Featuring a low and stretched-out body style, the CE 04 is a far-cry from other conventional maxi-scooters out there, thanks to its rather minimalistic design with floating seat style.

This chunky-looking EV scooter rides on equally-chunky 15-inch steelie wheels, wrapped in a sizable 120/70/R15-sized tyre at the front, and 160/60/R15 one for the rear.

The BMW CE 04 saw its price officially announced, which reads at RM59,055 nett.

The low-slung body shape of the CE 04 is beyond for styling purposes, as it grants the scooter with more space to house its 8.9-kWh battery pack and electric motor setup, with the former bestowing it with up to 130 KM of maximum travel range. Meanwhile, the liquid-cooled permanent synchronous magnet motor setup is rated at 41 HP (31 kW) and 62 NM – thus putting it on par with 500-600 CC ICE-powered maxi-scooters.

And just like any other EVs, the CE 04 is a rapid bike indeed, blasting from nought to 50 KM/H in just 2.6 seconds, while its V-max is electronically-governed to only 120 KM/H, for the sake of preserving the battery life.

BMW Motorrad claims 0-50 KM/H sprints in the CE 04 takes just 2.6 seconds.

In terms of charging, BMW Motorrad Malaysia claims that the CE 04 will recharge from 0 to 100% in about 4 hours and 20 minutes via the standard wall socket charging rated at 2.3 kW. Should you have a dedicated home wallbox charger installed at home, the same state-of-charge can be reached in only 1 hour and 20 minutes via a 6.9 kW-rated AC charging.

On the amenities front, the CE 04 is brimmed with a slew of premium equipment, as expected from a premium marque. Highlights include the 35 MM telescopic front forks plus pre-load adjustable rear shocks, as well as the quad-piston brake callipers plus a single rear disc brake with both tied together with an ABS module.

Internal storage and interactive 10.25-inch TFT instrumentation leads the kit list for the BMW CE 04.

As for the tech amenities, the CE 04 comes standard with a sizable 10.25-inch TFT colour display with integrated sat-nav system, plus the BMW Motorrad Connected App functionality. Elsewhere, the bike also harnesses a dedicated storage bin with USB chargers, 12-Volt socket, illuminated helmet stowage, keyless ignition, as well as a reversing aid.

The all-new BMW CE 04 is now available for purchase via any BMW Motorrad Malaysia’s authorised dealers, priced from RM59,055 before registration, insurance, and on-road costs.
