Next-Gen Mazda CX-5 Set For 2025 Debut As A Hybrid?
Current second-gen (KF) Mazda CX-5.
The Mazda CX-5 crossover SUV is set to see an all-new third generation model debut in 2025, and sources online even suggests that the Japanese automaker will see it adopt a new hybrid powertrain too.
The brand reportedly confirmed with Australian site Drive.com.au recently that a new generation successor is already in the works, but it is still at least 18 months away from hitting showrooms alongside the new CX-50 and CX-90.

Now reaching its 8-year mark, the KF-gen CX-5 is starting to show its age a little. An all-new third-gen replacement arriving in 2025 would prove timely indeed.
The same source goes on to note that the new generation CX-5 will also likely utilise a similar configuration as the current car, namely through its use of a 4-cyl powertrain and front-wheel-drive (FWD) setup with all-wheel-drive (AWD) available as an option.
Crucially, the report also indicates that the next-gen CX-5 will adopt a new hybrid powertrain too, with its electrification tech largely derived from Toyota. Therefore, we can expect the next CX-5 to sport similar 24-volt hybrid petrol-electric tech as seen in the Corolla Cross Hybrid.
If details in that last para are news to you, just remember that Toyota owns a 5% stake in Mazda, and both companies have collaborated multiple times too, bringing forth a Japan-only Mazda 3 Hybrid, as well as both companies sharing a plant in North America to produce both the Corolla Cross and CX-50 crossovers.

A hybrid powertrain, featuring tech derived from Toyota, is reportedly in the works for the third-gen Mazda CX-5.
With the current KF-generation CX-5 about to hit
its 8-year age mark, perhaps a successor by 2025 would prove timely indeed. Electrification, on the other hand, will likely be determined by each specific market’s acceptance of hybrid electric vehicles from the brand.
Bermaz, the Mazda brand's appointed Malaysian distributors, officially offers the CX-5 with across five variants in total, with the most affordable of the lot being the CX-5 2.0 2WD Mid variant which commands a base starting price of RM138,000.
