Update Address With JPJ Or You May Not Get Seized Vehicles Back - JPJ

Vehicle owners must update their addresses with the Road Transport Department (JPJ) in order to receive notices from the authorities, including the opportunity to reclaim their seized vehicles.
Kuala Lumpur JPJ director Mohd Zaki Ismail said vehicle seizures could be made under Section 64(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Vehicle owners can reclaim their vehicles after action is taken.
"However, problems arise when the owners do not come to claim the vehicles or do not receive the notice because their address has changed," he explained.
Mohd Zaki stated that seized vehicles would be auctioned off after a certain period if the owners did not claim them.
"Vehicle owners must keep their current addresses up to date. I hope vehicle owners will be mindful about updating their addresses," he said.
According to Mohd Zaki, Kuala Lumpur JPJ auctioned off 96 vehicles for a total of RM214,690 on Wednesday. He stated that 76 vehicles were still roadworthy and could be licenced, while the remaining 20 were scrapped.
"During the auction, the highest bid received for a scrap vehicle was RM6,000 for a rigid tipper dump truck, while the highest bid received for a (road-worthy) vehicle was RM41,000 for a small lorry," he said. "Each vehicle has a minimum price. JPJ reserves the right to withdraw any items from auction if the minimum bid is not met," he added.
