Frequency Of Commercial Vehicle Inspections Cannot Be Reduced - Transport Ministry
According to deputy minister Datuk Hasbi Habibollah, the Transport Ministry cannot arbitrarily reduce the frequency of commercial vehicle inspections to ensure the safety of other road users.
All of the procedures, standards, and inspection frequencies outlined in the motor vehicle regulations, periodic inspections, and motor vehicle equipment, according to him, are based on standards applied globally.
He stated that the frequency of the vehicle inspection has been set while considering the safety aspects of vehicle components, particularly when it comes to critical safety components like brakes, tyres, and vehicle control systems.
"It is feared that if this inspection period is spaced out, it will increase the risk of vehicle component failure, resulting in serious road accidents, especially involving heavy vehicles like trucks carrying heavy loads like sand, iron products, cement, and other construction materials”, he added in the Dewan Negara on Wednesday, June 21. Senator Rita Sarimah Patrick Insol asked a follow-up question about reducing the frequency of commercial vehicle inspections to lessen the burden on smallholders, and he was responding to that. He added that his ministry is also aware that there is currently no upper age limit for replacing goods vehicles because ageing vehicles increase the likelihood that certain vehicle components will fail.
Accordingly, the government will keep an eye on this situation to ensure the security of other users, he said. Source: Bernama
