Launched: 2023 Mercedes-Benz A-Class Sedan Facelift – From RM239K And RM264K

Refreshed V177 (sedan) and W177 (hatch) Mercedes-Benz A-Class range introduced at the Sepang International Circuit today.
After expanding its electrified AMG performance range locally with the EQE 53 and EQS 53 last week, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM) has kept its momentum going by introducing the face-lifted 2023 Mercedes-Benz A-Class sedan range earlier today.
As before, two variants of the V177-generation compact four-door saloon are available, those being the A200 Progressive Line and an up-specced A250 4Matic AMG Line variant. Both also continue to roll out of MBM’s local assembly (CKD) plant that’s situated in Pekan, Pahang.
Introduced and announced alongside these two models too during the Mercedes-Benz Driving Experience event held at the Sepang International Circuit today were the updated V177 Mercedes-AMG A35 4Matic and V177 A45 S 4Matic+ duo. We have details on both in this separate report.

Locally assembled (CKD) A200 Progressive Line (left) and A250 4Matic AMG Line (right), now refreshed in this latest 2023MY guise.
Besides a series of minor aesthetic tweaks inside and out, there’s also a significant powertrain update in the higher-specced A250. It now gains a new integrated 48-volt starter generator (ISG) paired with its 2.0-litre 4-cyl turbo mill and 8-speed DCT automatic transmission, thus making it a mild hybrid (MHEV).

In the A250, the powertrain has been upgraded with a 48-volt ISG, making it an MHEV now.
It also gets the 4Matic AWD suite added.
Despite the switch to mild-electrification, the A250’s output figures remain unchanged at 224 HP and 350 NM, but they now drive all-four wheels thanks to the newly added 4Matic all-wheel-drive (AWD) suite – it was front-wheel-drive (FWD) previously. In turn, this enables quicker 0-100 KM/H sprints in 6.4 seconds.
More importantly, the new ISG, which is rated at 10 kW (14 HP) and 150 NM, promise smoother engine starts and idling plus improved fuel efficiency. It should also allow the A250 to ‘glide’ with the combustion engine switched off whilst at a steady cruise.
As for the A200, things appear unchanged mechanically as it continues to feature a 1.3-litre 4-cyl turbocharged mill plus 7-speed DCT automatic box and FWD setups as before. The package is rated at 163 HP and 270 NM, which grants a respectable 0-100 KM/H sprint time of just 8.3 seconds.

Minor design tweaks were performed in the headlights, hexagonal grille, and front bumpers in
both variants.

Faux side intakes in the A250 4Matic AMG Line's front bumper gives it a more aggressive stance.
Changes to the exterior in both variants are modest to say the least. It consists of a lightly restyled pair of headlamps with a new single-bar LED DRL atop of each headlamp a la the C-Class – these were previously L-shaped. Lightly revised too are the taillight designs in both variants
New too are the front bumpers that now sports different lower intake openings, as is the slightly resized hexagonal front grille. For the AMG Line-kitted A250, its front bumper also gets new faux side intakes. As for wheels, the A200 now rolls on new dual-tone 17-inch units whilst the A250 gets AMG-style 18-inch units that also sport a dual-tone finish.

Central toucpad is now repositioned higher. There's also new buttons to toggle to Dynamic Access drive modes, plus a fingerprint sensor.

Dual 10.25-inch displays now runs on latest MBUX software, offering more connectivity functions, Apple and Android device compatibility, as well as configurable displays.
On board, the basic cabin layout remains, but the central touchpad is now repositioned higher on the console and allow access to a shallow storage bin here. Newly added here too are the buttons to toggle the Dynamic Access drive modes, as well as a fingerprint sensor.
The general dual 10.25-inch screen setup also remains, but it’s now running off the three-point star’s latest MBUX software that offer Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, configurable displays, as well as various connectivity-driven functions.
As for the higher-specced A250, its Active Steering Control module has been upgraded significantly. It now supports parking, including longitudinal parking assistance and a 360-degree camera with 3D imaging.

Lightly restyled taillights aside, thing appear business as usual in the rear ends both variants.
Apart from what we’ve just detailed, little else has changed on board this refreshed-for-2023 iteration of theV177-gen Mercedes-Benz A200 Progressive Line and A250 4Matic AMG Line offerings. These are now available for orders, priced at RM238,888 and RM264,000 (estimated) respectively, sans insurance.
Like before, both prices include MBM’s standard 4-year, unlimited mileage warranty coverage. Check out more images of both cars in the extensive gallery prepared below.
