Launched: Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4Matic+ – RM798,888!

Launched alongside the Mercedes-AMG EQE today is yet another performance EV saloon from Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM), which is the Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4Matic+. This is the souped-up version of the already-launched Mercedes-Benz EQS saloon, marking the second-ever AMG EV model to be launched into our local market.

2023 Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4Matic+
As its name suggests, the AMG EQS 53 boasts the AMG Performance 4Matic+ all-wheel drive (AWD) system that comprises of two electric motors – one for the front axle, one for the rear. This setup is capable of delivering a total system output of 658 HP (484 kW) and 950 NM, propelling this full-size saloon from nought to 100 KM/H in just 3.8 seconds. Flat out, the EQS 53 is capable of reaching its electronically-limited top speed of 220 KM/H
Should you want more, there’s an option to further boost this performance output via Mercedes-AMG Dynamic Plus package. This performance add-on further increases the EQS 53’s total system output to a whopping 761 HP and 1,020 NM, making it capable of finishing a 0-100 KM/H sprint in just 3.4 seconds. Said package also increases the top speed cap of the car up to 250 KM/H.

Juicing up the dual electric motor setup is a big 108.4-kWh lithium-ion battery pack – the same pack used on the locally-assembled (CKD) EQS 500. Said battery pack grants the AMG EQS 53 with a maximum EV range of up to 571 KM, which is less than EQS 500’s claimed EV range of 696 KM.
As for charging, the EQS 53 supports both AC 11 kW and DC 200 kW charging methods, with the former charges the car from 0% to 100% in 11 hours and 15 minutes, while the latter charges the car from 10% to 80% in just 31 minutes.

In terms of design, the EQS 53 does not veer that far-off from the standard EQS model. The AMG treatment grants the EQS with a slew of AMG-specific parts, including the sportier front bumper featuring front splitters, fins and air curtains, 21-inch AMG light alloy wheels with multi-spoke design, AMG high-performance brakes with red-hued callipers, rear ducktail spoiler, and many more.

And just like the AMG EQE model, the AMG EQS also comes standard with the AMG Night package, which bestows a slew of gloss black and dark chrome parts to the car’s exterior. Elsewhere, the AMG EQE 53 also sports LED digital headlights that flank the car’s faux front grille.

The AMG EQS 53 cabin blends both the luxury and sporty elements very well
The AMG treatment continues once we go inside the EQS 53 cabin. Upon entering the car, you’ll be greeted with the special illuminated AMG door sill plates, as well as the AMG floor mats. Among other AMG parts featured on board includes the AMG Performance steering wheel, as well as the AMG sporty semi-bucket seats, wrapped in premium Nappa leather upholstery.

As for the tech amenities, the EQS 53 gets the latest MBUX hyperscreen that comprises of three separate display – a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster for the driver, a 17.7-inch central infotainment display with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and another 12.3-inch touch display for the front passenger. Rear passengers, however, won’t get their own infotainment screen like those we’ve seen on the EQS 500.

Topping-off the cabin amenities list are the panoramic sunroof, Burmester 3D surround sound system, as well as a head-up display for drivers.
On the safety front, the EQS 53 comes standard with Mercedes-Benz’s latest Driving Assistant Plus package. Said package grants the car with standard ADAS features like Active Lane-Keeping Assist (LKA), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with stop-and-go function, remote parking functions, a 360-degree camera view, and many more.

Would you keen to take this AMG EV saloon over its rivals?
Fully-imported (CBU) from Mercedes-AMG’s Germany plant, the all-new Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4Matic+ is priced at RM798,888 on-the-road sans insurance and add-ons. Compared to the locally-assembled Mercedes-Benz EQS 500 4Matic, the AMG EQS 53 is RM150,000 more expensive.
So folks, what do you think of the Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4Matic+? Do you think its price hike over the standard EQS model justified the amount of equipment offered? As always, leave your thoughts in the comments down below…
