Proton X90: 5,000 Bookings Placed, 10% Delivered, 6-Seat Version High In Demand
Nearly 5,000 bookings have been placed by Malaysians for the new Proton X90.
Besides opening its novel new ‘Digital Xperience’ (DX) centre with tech subsidiary ACO Tech located at Quill City Mall, KL earlier this week, chief execs from national carmaker Proton also gave attending press members a brief sales update surrounding the new Proton X90.
Launched just a little over a moth and a half ago, the X90 stands as Proton's largest, priciest, most tech-laden, and first electrified offering. It also see the national carmaker entering the D-segment SUVs space for the first time through said model, which is a localised version of the Geely Haoyue/Okavango.
Launched last month, the D-segment SUV with 3-rows of seats is priced from RM123,800 onwards.
In his address to press members at said experience centre launch, Deputy CEO Roslan Abdullah revealed that nearly 5,000 bookings were collected thus far. The exec further notes that the range-topping X90 1.5 TGDi Flagship 6-seat variant stands as the most popular choice amongst buyers.
Crucially, Roslan also noted that Proton has delivered up to 500 units, or roughly 10%, of said X90 orders thus far too. “We expect deliveries to increase in July while the waiting period for the X90 is now less than 6 months,” adds Roslan further.
Up to 500 units of the X90 have been delivered, and Proton says waiting periods for the model stands at less than 6 months now.
Said delivery timeline promised for the X90 model is also perhaps another reflection of Proton’s recent claims of being safe from chip shortage. Said global issue plagued the national carmaker’s sales efforts and figures over the last few years, but Deputy CEO Roslan notes that this is no longer the case.
“We are producing more than what we planned earlier. So for the next two years, we already ordered the amount that we only wanted to produce,” said Roslan recently to local business daily The Edge Malaysia. He also added that the shortage has been resolved as a result of high demands from the previous year.
Range-topping 1.5 TGDi Flagship 6-seat variant stands as the most popular choice. It features second row captain seats.

Matching said posh seats are dedicated 'boss switch' (left) plus both climate controls and vents (right) too.
Available across four variants, the Proton X90 three-row SUV model is priced between RM123,800 and RM152,800. As noted prior, said figures sees Proton offer buyers in this segment with a value-for-money proposition, but also one that’s not low in kit, tech, and luxurious features on board.
As mentioned, the most upmarket choice of the lot is the 1.5 TGDi Flagship 6-seat variant. It boasts plush second-row captain seats complete with a front passenger seat ‘boss switch’ and dedicated air-cond controls and blower vents.
New Proton X90 also stands as Proton first NEV (New Energy Vehicle) thanks to its adoption of a mild-hybrid (MHEV) powetrain.
Additionally, the X90 marks Proton’s first step towards electrification too as all variants harness a new 1.5-litre TGDi 4-cyl turbo petrol mill primed with 48-volt belt-starter generator (BSG), thus making it a mild-hybrid (MHEV) – Proton’s first, in fact. This, in turn promises to boost performance and efficiency further.
