10% Of Seizure Value Reward For Reporting Vehicle Customs Duty And Tax Evaders

JKDM will reward informers for tip-offs on perpetrators evading vehicle customs duties and taxes.

Deputy Minister of Finance I Datuk Ahmad Maslan was quoted by local newswire Bernama earlier this week where he said that the Royal Malaysia Customs Department (JKDM) will reward informers who provide accurate information on the evasion of customs duties and taxes, as well as the perpetrators.
Besides cigarettes and booze, the minister confirms that this offer covers reports on other taxed good such as vehicles. Informers will be rewarded with up to 10% of the seizure value, and the minister adds the promise that their identity will be kept confidential.
Speaking with Bernama, Datuk Ahmad Maslan elaborated that “If the value of the seizure is worth RM1 million, then 10% of that, which is RM100,000, will be given to the informant. There is indeed a provision for informants that we will evaluate according to category.”

“We hope that more people will contact the JKDM if they see something suspicious, we consider these informants as category A, which means that when the JKDM arrives at the place, they can immediately arrest the perpetrators and seize the goods. It also includes cases involving drugs,” continued the minister.
Justifying this, the minister says information is needed to combat activities that would harm the people and the country. He even notes that JKDM has been giving out rewards for a long time, just that these weren’t announced.
Datuk Ahmad Maslan further hopes that more people contact JKDM if they see something suspicious. “We consider these informants as Category A, which means that when JKDM arrives at the place, they can immediately arrest perpetrators and seize the goods. It also includes cases involving drugs.”
Despite the saying that ‘snitches get stitches’, perhaps a little bit of pain might just be worthwhile for a sizeable reward. What do you folks think then? Will you be the first to rat out on somebody you know who’s dodging customs duties and taxes on their vehicles? Hit the comments below…
