MyBorderPass: Over 30K Bikers Registered for Faster MY-SG Border Crossing
Over 30,000 people have already registered for Malaysia's MyBorderPass, the nation's first facial recognition system specifically intended for motorcyclists. Since its trial debut late last month, this QR code-based method has swiftly garnered favour among riders who pass through the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (BSI) complex at the Johor-Singapore border and expedite immigration clearance.
The proof-of-concept (POC) phase for MyBorderPass, along with two other new systems, is set to conclude on Aug 31. Johor's works, transportation, infrastructure, and communication committee chairman, Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh, stated, “We will determine which system is most suitable for our checkpoints with Singapore.”
The other two systems being tested are MyTrip, which was introduced on June 1 for the Sultan Abu Bakar Customs, Immigration, and Quarantine Complex (CIQ) at the Second Link, and MyRentas, which began trials a few weeks later at BSI. Fazli also stated that he planned to stop by the BSI to observe how MyBorderPass—which allots three specific lanes for entry and exit—is being implemented.
He assured the public that existing e-gates and manual counters will still be available for immigration processing in addition to the new QR code apps. The government is working to improve the entire travel experience between Malaysia and Singapore and to expedite border control, which includes the installation of these most recent systems.
