Launched: Chery Omoda 5 And Tiggo 8 Pro – RM108,800 And RM159,800

At last, Chinese automaker Chery has officially re-launched itself into the Malaysian market tonight, and it culminates with the official introduction of the Omoda 5 and Tiggo 8 Pro SUVs. Both the Omoda 5 and Tiggo 8 Pro were first previewed to local press late last year before being shown to the public at the Malaysia Autoshow 2023 in May this year.
Leading up to tonight’s launch event, Chery Malaysia has been busy behind the scenes in setting up its local network plus a local assembly effort with partners Inokom. Key efforts include setting up its spare parts logistics, as well as dealership and service centre network, of which CariCarz.com previously learnt that no less than 30 branches will be established across peninsular and East Malaysia too.

Chery Omoda 5 H variant, priced at RM118,800.
Tonight’s launch sees Chery Malaysia officially announcing the retail prices for both models. Starting with the Omoda 5 B-segment SUV fighter, two grades will be offered – C and H – and they’re priced at RM108,800 and RM118,800 respectively (excluding insurance). Included in both are a 7-year or 150,000 KM warranty with a 5-year free service coverage by Chery Malaysia.
Notably, the after-sales coverage even includes a 10-year, 1,000,000 KM engine warranty that's free for the first 3,000 customers. After which, this coverage is offered as an optional Extended Warranty Package priced at RM2,000.

The Omoda 5 packs a 1.5-litre TCI 4-cyl petrol mill paired with a 9-speed CVT automatic box.
Powering the Omoda 5 is a 1.5-litre TCI 4-cyl turbo petrol mill rated at 156 HP and 230 NM that drives the front wheels via a 9-speed CVT automatic box.
Shared across both are 18-inch wheels, electronic parking brake with auto-hold function, dual-zone climate control, dynamic 64-colour cabin ambient lighting suite, cooled armrest storage bin, rear-view parking camera, keyless entry and ignition, wireless smartphone charger, as well as all-LED headlights and DRLs.
Both variants also feature dual 10.25-inch digital display panels, with one serving as the instrument display whilst the other is tasked as the central infotainment touchscreen. The latter comes equipped with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto plus an Intelligent Voice Assistant feature too.

Combination faux-leather and fabric upholstery lines the C-grade variant’s cabin, whilst the higher-spec H-grade gets full faux-leather upholstery instead. The latter is also brimmed with more luxuries such as 6-way driver seat power adjustment, front ventilated seats, powered tailgate, and an electric sunroof.
Exclusive to the the H-spec are advanced LED lighting suite that adds sequential turn signals and a novelty described by Chery as ‘Lighting Effect of Ceremonial Exterior Decoration’. This variant is also gets a premium 8-speaker Sony hi-fi audio suite, and two-tone alloy wheels featuring red-painted stripes.
As for basic safety, both the C and H grades share 6 airbags, as well as ABS with EBS and BAS plus BOS, traction and stability control suites, hill-start assist, hill descent control, and a neat tyre pressure monitor (TPMS).

Both also share a host of active driver assistance functions (ADAS). Included are adaptive cruise control (ACC) with low-speed follow and traffic jam assist (TJA), forward collision warning (FCW) and autonomous emergency braking (AEB), blind-spot detection (BSD), lane-departure warning (LDW) and prevention (LDP) with emergency lane-keeping (ELK), automatic headlamp control, as well as an integrated cruise assist.
The higher-specced H variant sees this list bolstered further with the addition of traffic sign detection with intelligent speed adaptation, speed limit/control assist, as well as a nifty 360-degree HD panoramic camera suite.

Chery Tiggo 8 Pro D-segment SUV with 7-seats, priced at RM159,800.
Moving on to the Tiggo 8 Pro, this D-segment crossover SUV with 7 seats across three rows is also richly-equipped to perhaps justify its RM159,800 price tag (sans insurance). Included is a 7-year or 150,000 KM warranty with 5-year free service coverage as well.
Notably, the the 10-year, 1,000,000 KM engine warranty added for free for the first 3,000 customers is applicable here too. After which, it will be offered as a cost-option Extended Warranty Package priced at RM2,000.

Tiggo 8 Pro gets a peppier 2.0-litre TGDi 4-cyl mill with a slick 7-speed DCT automatic box.
Powering the Tiggo 8 Pro is a 2.0-litre TGDi direct-injected 4-cyl turbo petrol mill rated at 256 HP and 390 NM. It’s paired with a 7-speed DCT box and front-wheel-drive setups, and there are three selectable drive modes available – Eco, Normal, and Sport.
