Proton X70 Gets New 1.5 TGDi Premium X 2WD Variant – From RM126K

Perusahaan Otomobil Nasional Sdn Bhd (Proton) has unveiled a new variant for the Proton X70 C-segment SUV. Cordially known as the Proton X70 1.5 TGDi Premium X 2WD, this new variant features a slew of new equipment, powered by the same three-pot mill.

Announced via Proton's official Facebook page, the X70 Premium X sports the same 1.5-litre 3-cyl turbocharged TGDi mill that we saw on several other Proton X models, including the newly-launched X90. This engine is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT) to deliver a total system output of 174 HP and 255 NM.
While several range-topping variants of the X70 get the all-wheel drive (AWD) setup, the Premium X variant is primed with a front-wheel drive (FWD) drivetrain instead.

The Proton X70 Premium X gets exclusive Quartz Black colourway
In terms of standard kit, the X70 Premium X looks pretty much the same as the normal Premium variant. The model rides on the same 19-inch alloy wheels, while sporting the same LED projector headlights like we saw on the four-pot Premium variant before. More importantly, the Premium X variant gets a new exclusive Quartz Black exterior hue, alongside the standard Snow White and Jet Grey.

As for the on-board kit, the Premium X variant gets the standard 8-inch infotainment display, Nappa leather upholstery, powered front seats, powered tailgate, as well as a nine-speaker sound system. Furthermore, this three-pot Premium X variant also gets a panoramic sunroof, which was previously only available to the more up-specced variants.

Safety-wise, the new X70 variant gets the same level of ADAS features, including Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Blind-Spot Monitor (BSM), and Lane-Departure Warning (LDW). The usual passive safety features like VSC, ABS with EBD, and six airbags are all available, too.

The new Proton X70 1.5 TGDi Premium X 2WD is now open for booking, which retails at RM126,800 on-the-road sans insurance. This puts the Premium X variant about RM3,000 more expensive than the standard Premium variant, while about RM2,000 cheaper compared to the 1.8 TGDi Premium spec.
So folks, what do you think of the new X70 Premium X variant? Would you take this three-pot spec over its slightly more expensive 1.8 TGDi Premium twin? As always, leave your thoughts in the comments down below…
