Tesla Model Y Malaysia Configurator Goes Live – From RM199,000!

Tesla Model Y is now open for bookings in Malaysia!
It is no secret that Tesla is officially coming to Malaysia this month. Ahead of its 20 July official debut, the American EV maker has surprised the whole nation by updating its official site to include the official configurator for one of its core models, the Tesla Model Y.

Tesla Model Y Standard AWD variant
For the Malaysian market, the Tesla Model Y crossover is available in three variants – Standard RWD, Long Range AWD, and Performance AWD. It's also worth noting that Malaysian Tesla buyers benefit with even more customisation options compared to buyers just north of our borders in Thailand.
Starting with the baseline Standard RWD variant, this model harnesses a single rear-mounted electric motor that propels it from nought to 100 KM/H in 6.9 seconds, enroute to its electronically-limited top speed of 217 KM/H. As for range, the Standard RWD variant boasts a maximum EV range of 430 KM, according to WLTP standards that is.

Tesla Model Y in Red Multi-Coat exterior colour & Black and White interior hue
In terms of styling, the Model Y standard is offered in five standard exterior colourways – Pearl White, Solid Black, Midnight Silver Metallic, Deep Blue Metallic, Red Multi-Coat – and two interior hues – All-Black or Black and White. Meanwhile, there are two wheel options to choose from – 19-inch Gemini wheels or the bigger 20-inch Induction wheels.

Tesla Model Y Long Range AWD
Moving a step up and you’ll get the Model Y Long Range AWD. As its name suggests, the Long Range variant is powered by an all-wheel drive (AWD) dual electric motor setup that blasts this compact crossover from 0 to 100 KM/H in 5.0 seconds. Boasting a bigger battery pack, the Long Range variant can go as far as 533 KM (WLTP) on a single charge.
Unlike the Standard RWD variant, the Long Range model is offered with one wheel option, which is the 19-inch Gemini wheels. Colour options, however, remain the same for this variant.

Tesla Model Y Performance AWD
Finally, the range-topping Performance AWD variant is the most expensive Model Y you can get in Malaysia. This souped-up variant harnesses the same AWD dual-motor setup as the Long Range variant, albeit with different state-of-tune. Instead, the Model Y Performance AWD boasts a 0 to 100 KM/H sprint time of only 3.7 seconds, enroute to its V-max of 250 KM/H. Better performance means that the Performance variant sacrifices some range, as this model comes with a claimed maximum EV range of 514 KM (WLTP).
The range-topping model gets the same exterior and interior hue options, while the wheel option is limited to one type, which is the 21-inch Überturbine wheels.

Enhanced Autopilot and Full Self-Driving Capability packages are offered as add-ons
In terms of safety equipment, all variants of the Model Y are offered with two add-on safety packages. Priced at RM16,000, the Enhanced Autopilot package, which adds features like Navigation on Autopilot, Auto Lane Change, Autopark, Smart Summon, and more.
Interestingly, all Model Y in Malaysia are also offered with the Full Self-Driving Capability package, which starts at RM32,000. Opting for this add-on will grant you with all the Basic and Enhanced Autopilot features, while other features like the Traffic Light & Stop Sign Control and the Autosteer functions will be added later.

As for pricing, the baseline Tesla Model Y Standard RWD starts at RM199,000, while the mid-spec Model Y Long Range AWD is priced at RM246,000. On the other hand, the range-topping Model Y Performance AWD variant commands the heftiest price tag of RM288,000. All in all, this puts the Tesla Model Y as one of the most affordable ‘premium’ EVs available in the market.

All prices mentioned above are inclusive of SST and 100% road tax exemptions. Besides, you’ll also get Tesla Motors Malaysia’s 4-year or 80,000 KM Basic Vehicle Warranty, while the battery and drive unit get an extended 8-year or 160,000 KM (192,000 KM for Long Range and Performance variants) warranty, with minimum 70% retention of battery capacity over the warranty period. Bookings for the Tesla Model Y is now open at Tesla Motors Malaysia’s official website, with deliveries expected to commence in early 2024.

So folks, what do you think of the Tesla Model Y’s official Malaysian prices? Would you be keen to take this crossover EV over any other EVs at the same price range? As always, leave your thoughts in the comments down below…
