Tesla Motors Malaysia: Recon Owners Can Access Our Superchargers
-full.jpg)
Tesla has now officially set foot in Malaysia, albeit thanks largely through its expedited entry that was made possible by the BEV Global Leaders project.
Tesla Motors Malaysia (TMM) plans to build 50 Supercharger stations in the country by 2026, promising 30% of which will be accessible to non-Tesla vehicles too. The Tesla Supercharger network in Malaysia will harness the brand’s V3 Superchargers module, which boasts a maximum charging rate of 250 kW.

TMM has already identified and is working on establishing 10 Tesla Supercharger locations across Malaysia, with one already up and pending operational approval from the relevant local authorities. The remaining niner locations are at Iskandar Puteri (Johor), Negeri Sembilan, Dengkil, Bukit Jalil, Sunway, Jalan Raja Chulan, Jalan Kuching, Ipoh (Perak), and Perai (Pulau Pinang).
Earlier today, Caricarz.com were able to speak with a representative from TMM earlier today to inquire about the level of support it would extend to Tesla cars that have and are still being sold by the local grey importers.

Firstly, TMM has no plans to introduce an adoption package for grey import (recon) Tesla's in Malaysia, thus all warranty claims would have to be handled in the vehicle’s country of origin. Repairs however would be subjected to local parts availability as some parts in local Tesla models differ from vehicles made for other markets sold as recon units locally. These include the vehicle’s air-conditioning gas, compressor, and so on.
As for Tesla Supercharger network access, TMM would not deny grey import Tesla owners from the Supercharging experience. We were informed that most grey import Model Y and Model 3 would be able to access the Supercharger network in Malaysia straightaway when it is launched.

However for the flagship Tesla Model S and Model X, vehicle owners would have to send their vehicles over to TMM service centres when it's ready for a minor modification to their charging port. They will also need to acquire an official Tesla adapter if needed in order to gain access to the Supercharger. The cost of this modification plus the adapter would be between RM1,500 to RM2,000.
In other words, existing Tesla owners in Malaysia, be it official or grey units, you need not worry as MOST of you would surely enjoy the Tesla Supercharging experience very soon.
