The Model A is the first flying car to receive legal permission to fly from the US government.

Alef Aeronautics, based in California, has announced that its electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) vehicle, the Model A flying car, has received legal approval from the US government to fly.

The Alef Model A, which will be unveiled in October 2022, will be able to drive on public roads and is said to have vertical takeoff and landing capabilities. On a single full charge, it has a driving range of 200 miles (322 kilometres) and a flying range of 110 miles (177 kilometres) with one to two occupants.

The Model A flying car starts at $300,000 USD. The electric model can be pre-ordered for USD 150 through Alef's website. Priority reservations are available for USD 1,500. image.png

Alef claimed that it has received numerous pre-orders from both individuals and businesses. Model A production will begin in 2025. According to an official statement, Alef received special airworthiness certification from the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), making it the first time a vehicle of this type has received legal permission to fly from the US government. While the FAA is actively developing policies for eVTOL vehicles and governing interactions between eVTOLs and ground infrastructure, Alef's special airworthiness certificate restricts the locations and purposes for which the Model A may fly. It can only take off from whitelisted areas.
