Classic Toyota Land Cruiser 70 Refreshed For 2024 Model Year

The mighty Toyota Land Cruiser 70 has just been updated with a new 2024 model year guise!
Though it may be nearly four decades old now, but it seems the end is still nowhere in sight for the mighty Toyota Land Cruiser 70. Alongside the new generation Land Cruiser Prado, Toyota also unveiled an updated 2024 model year version of said classic earlier today.
The Land Cruiser 70 continues to helm the position as the ‘Heavy Duty’ offering next to the new generation Land Cruiser Prado model. This latest refresh marks the first since its last update back in 2007, sporting a host of functional updates all around.

Modern updates in this 2024MY version sees new all-LED lighting, and a revised dashboard design with improved ergonomics, new instrument panel, plus a 6.7-inch touchscreen infotainment.
Key amongst which is the switch to new all-LED lighting front and aft, a new set of alloy wheels and, depending on market, an updated powertrain too. Also, depending on market, the Land Cruiser 70 sees up to four body styles too.
On board, the 2024MY version of the Land Cruiser 70 sees its cabin laced with a new instrument display panel plus an updated centre console with improved ergonomics. Housed here too is a new 6.7-inch touchscreen infotainment unit that offers both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.

Up to four body styles are available including this 'wagon' form. Also new on board are a host of TSS ADAS features like lane-departure warning, rad sign assist, and automatic high beam.
Another key update is the addition of the Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) active driver assist (ADAS) features. This, in turn, primes the Land Cruiser 70 with features such as lane departure warning, road sign assist, as well as automatic high beam.
Apart from what we’ve detailed, little else has changed inside and out, which is exactly what many of the Land Cruiser 70 buyers have reportedly requested for over the years. As for the powertrain changes, this is market-specific too, but it’s all good news to say the least.

On the powertrain front, the Land Cruiser 70 is now available with a Hilux-derived 2.8-litre 4-cyl turbo-diesel plus a 6-speed automatic box. Some markets will also see its signature V8 option available too.
Powering the Land Cruiser 70 is a familiar 2.8-litre 4-cyl turbo-diesel lifted from the Hilux pick-up truck. Rated at 201 HP and 500 NM, said mill is paired with a 6-speed Super-ECT automatic box. For select markets like Australia, the Land Cruiser 70 continues to see its signature 4.5-litre V8 turbo-diesel option available as well. Good for 202 HP and 430 NM, this is paired with a 5-speed manual transmission.

Regardless of which powertrain buyers opt for, a full-blown 4x4 driveline still comes as standard kit.
Regardless of which powertrain option buyers opt for, a full-blown 4x4 driveline is primed as standard equipment. Also updated but largely unchanged is the Land Cruiser 70’s ladder frame chassis which, according to Toyota, promises a balance between on-road comfort with familiar off-road prowess.
At the time of writing, prices for the revised 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser 70 weren’t revealed yet, but Toyota did confirm sales and deliveries will commence in Australia from Q4 this year. Notably, this classic will also return into its Japanese home market starting this winter.
