Indonesia Says Tesla Plans To Invest In A Battery Material Facility

Tesla will invest in a battery material facility in Indonesia after several months of rumours and whispers, Reuters reported.
According to Reuters, Senior Minister Luhut Pandjaitan shared information about a recent trip to San Francisco where he met with Tesla representatives. He added this to the post:
“He [Elon Musk] wants to invest in the manufacturing of materials for lithium batteries… The investment will be quite big. Let’s wait for Elon to come here around the end of September or October this year”.

Indonesia is rich in nickel and has long made an effort to lure Tesla and other automakers to the area. To source nickel, Tesla has already reached agreements with a number of local businesses, resulting in a smooth supply chain for the company.
The Minister also debunked rumours that the next Gigafactory would be built in the island nation by announcing that Tesla would not be constructing a car factory there.
The Minister also announced investments in a new battery material facility and the launch of Starlink, a rural internet service provider, in the nation. The Minister did not offer any additional information, such as a timeframe or a cost.
