Regas Premium Sabah Opens First Public EV Charging Facility in Sabah

Regas Premium Sabah, BMW Group Malaysia’s sole authorised dealer in Sabah has opened the state’s first-ever EV public charging facility today, marking a significant milestone in Sabah’s electromobility ecosystem development and in-line with the BMW’s charging infrastructure expansion plan nationwide.

Sabah's first public EV charging stations is located in Jalan Bundasan, Kota Kinabalu
Located at the basement parking of T1@Bundasan in Taman Cemerlang district of Kota Kinabalu, this new EV charging facility is borne out of a collaboration between Regas Premium Sabah and renowned local EV charging point operator (CPO) JomCharge. Featuring two bays capable of AC charging at rates up to 11 kW, this charging facility is now open 24 hours daily to the public, with a standard rate of RM6 per hour.
Hans de Visser, managing director of BMW Group Malaysia said, “With the official unveiling of this new charging facility, we congratulate our long-time dealer partner for taking this bold step towards increasing accessibility to sustainable mobility for our customers and all EV owners in Kota Kinabalu. The significance of this achievement lies in its potential to reshape mobility habits and drive the adoption of electric vehicles in the region.”

Meanwhile, dealer principal and managing director of Regas Premium Sabah Datuk Matthew Tan Yaw Tzuu said, “We envision a Sabah where environmentally conscious choices are the norm, and the unveiling of the first public EV charging facility here is a significant stride towards that goal. This not only encourages the uptake of EVs but also aligns with government incentives designed to promote sustainable transportation options. We at Regas Premium Sabah believe that providing accessible charging infrastructure will empower more individuals to embrace EV ownership confidently.”
Aside from Kota Kinabalu, Regas Premium Sabah also plans to expand BMW Group Malaysia’s EV charging network to other towns and districts in Sabah, eyeing Tawau as their next location for new EV charging facilities.

With the addition of Sabah’s first EV charging station, BMW Group Malaysia now has over 1,000 charging stations under its vast EV charging network so far. Of the total volume, around 400 of them are provided through the firm’s partnership with ChargEV and Yinson Greentech, while over 100 of them came from JomCharge. Aside from those two CPOs, BMW has also collaborated with numerous other CPOs like ChargeSini, Shell Recharge, Go To-U, and many more.

Apart from partnering with CPOs, over 100 BMW and MINI dealerships nationwide are also doubled as EV charging stations, with BMW Group Malaysia planning to further expand its charging network via numerous partnerships with both CPOs and dealers, as well as other partnering venues across the country in near future’s time.
