Following the debut of bespoke La Rose Noire Droptail, renowned British boutique marque Rolls-Royce has unveiled yet another coachbuilt model based on the Droptail roadster. Cordially known as the Amethyst Droptail, this hand-built roadster features unique design and colourway inspired by its namesake gemstone.

Similar to the La Rose Noire, the Amethyst Droptail is draped in bespoke two-tone exterior hue, consisting of the Globe Amaranth soft purple colour inspired by a flower that blooms near the owner’s house, as well as the darker Amethyst. The lighter shade features a silver undertone while the deep purple hue blends some specks of blue, red, and violet to give it an enhanced sheen.

Up front, the Amethyst Droptail features the similar look with other Droptail models, featuring polished front grille with RR’s signature Spirit of Ecstasy ornament crowning above it. Below the grille lies a lower intake which is made of over 200 hand-polished stainless steel painted in the same Globe Amaranth as the main body hue.

At the rear, this bespoke roadster features a unique rear deck that features a large wooden surface, which produces a much-needed downforce in place of a conventional rear wing. Just like the La Rose Noire, the Amethyst Droptail also comes with electrochromic glass on its hardtop roof, which features a purple tint to match with its body hue.

It took Rolls-Royce's engineers more than 50 hours to hand-polish the wheels and front grille

Elsewhere, the Amethyst Droptail rides on massive 22-inch wheels finished in two-tone polished aluminium and a dark mauve paint. Together with the aforementioned front grille, it takes folks at Goodwood more than 50 hours of collective work to hand-polish and hand-brush these parts to achieve uniformity in the finishes.

On board, the Amethyst Droptail cabin combines both leather upholstery and dark wood veneers, with the former featuring soft purple finish, and the latter matching the exterior wooden deck we mentioned earlier. Centrepiece to its front dash, however, is the hand-made Vacheron Constantin timepiece, featuring amethyst-hued dial and white-gold baseplate.

Each Amethyst Droptail comes with an exclusive hand-made Vacheron Constantin timepiece

Similar to the Audemars Piguet watch we saw on the La Rose Noire, this Geneva-made timepiece is also removable from the car, ensuring that the owners can wear them too should they desire.

The Amethyst Droptail gets the familiar 6.75-litre twin-turbocharged V12 mill under its hood – the same powertrain used on the RR Phantom. However, this 12-pot mill gets a bespoke state-of-tune, now delivering 593 HP and 841 NM. While Rolls-Royce did not disclose the performance numbers of the Droptail, we can expect them to match the two-door, V12-powered Dawn’s 0 to 100 KM/H sub-5-seconds time, as well as its limited top speed of 249 KM/H.

As expected, the British marque also restrained itself from disclosing the exact price tag of this coachbuilt Amethyst Droptail. Considering that only four examples of the Amethyst Droptail will be made, we can look at figures beyond the tens of millions, with Autocar UK suggesting that it costs more than £20 million (RM116 million approx.) apiece. But then again, regardless of its initial price, we’d reckon that it’ll fetch more in years to come…
