2024 Honda Prologue EV SUV Debuts with 483 KM EV Range
The 2024 Honda Prologue EV SUV is borne out of Honda's collaboration with General Motors
Debuting in the US today is the all-new 2024 Honda Prologue – Honda USA’s first-ever all-electric model. Borne out of the marque’s collaboration with American automotive giant General Motors (GM), Honda’s first ‘serious’ EV model utilises EV technologies taken straight from GM’s inventory.
Previewed as a concept model last year, the Prologue shares the same Ultium EV platform as the Chevrolet Blazer EV – a brand under the GM’s vast wings. Measuring 4,877 MM long with a wheelbase of 3,094 MM, the Prologue is about the same size as the US-only Honda Passport, thus throwing it into the mid-size SUV category.
Aside from that, said platform also allows this mid-size EV SUV to carry a sizable 85.0-kWh lithium-ion battery pack which garners it with a maximum EV range of 483 KM, according to the stringent EPA cycle. DC fast charging rate is capped at only 155 kW, with Honda claims a 10-minute DC charge at this rate will garner the Prologue with over 100 KM of EV range.
The Prologue will come in both single motor FWD and dual-motor AWD versions
As for its powertrain, the Prologue EV SUV is powered by a dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) setup with a total system output of 288 HP (215 kW) and 451 NM. Honda said a front-wheel drive (FWD) version will also be available later in the future, which promises to deliver “confident acceleration and maximum efficiency.”
While sharing the same platform as other GM EVs, Honda claims that the Prologue gets a slew of Honda-exclusive tunings, particularly on its damper setup.
Like it or not, the Honda Prologue is a pretty sleek-looking EV SUV
On the visual front, there’s nothing new to report here, as the production-spec Prologue looks exactly like its prototype previewed last year. It features a sleeker and simpler take on Honda’s current design language, though we’d reckon Honda would rather label it as ‘minimalist’ than ‘safe’. Key design cues include the slim LED headlights flanking its grill-less front fascia, new Honda e: emblem at the rear, as well as a couple of wheel options with sizes ranging from 19- to 21-inch, depending on the variant.
Things are a tad bit more familiar as we get on board the Prologue EV SUV. For starters, it comes with a similar-looking front dash layout as we saw on the new Honda Accord and CR-V, featuring a 11.3-inch floating infotainment display at the centre powered by the Google Built-In software. Again, thanks to its longer wheelbase, space is pretty abundant here, so much so that Honda has fitted the cabin with a slew of cup holders and storage spaces.
Elsewhere, other tech amenities laced in this cabin include the 11-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless charging pad, 8-way powered front seats with heated and ventilated functions, panoramic sunroof, as well as a 12-speaker Bose sound system.
The 2024 Honda Prologue will only be available in the North American market, for now...
Set to make its market entry later in 2024, the Honda Prologue will be a North American-exclusive model, with prices starting at around US$40,000 (RM187,600). While there’s an almost-to-none chance that we’ll see this EV SUV entering our market, Honda still decides to present the Prologue at the upcoming 2023 Japan Mobility Show happening later in Oct.
More importantly, the Prologue EV SUV will spearhead Honda USA’s more progressive push towards electromobility, with the marque planning to launch no more than 30 new EV models by the end of this decade, including an affordable EV model co-developed by GM. All in all, this push is part of Honda USA’s goal to reach 100% zero-emission automobile sales in North America by 2040.
