The Gemas-Johor Bahru electric double-track rail project is 92% complete, according to Transport Minister Anthony Loke.
The project, which is expected to be completed by 2025, has been delayed several times, most notably due to Covid-19, but it is now back on track. According to Loke, this project must be completed as soon as possible so that it can connect Johor Bahru to Kuala Lumpur and all the way to Padang Besar.

According to Malay Mail, the electric double-track project spans 192 kilometres and includes 11 stations. Once completed, trains can travel at 140kph between KL Sentral and JB Sentral in 3.5 hours.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Railway Assets Corporation (RAC), the Kluang Municipal Council (KMC), SIPP-YTL JV, and Think City Sdn Bhd was for the development of the Kluang Heritage Railway Linear Park, which will include a recreational park built beneath the railway viaduct.
Loke added that the park's construction was gazetted in the KMC Local Plan 2030, which aims to change the landscape of the surrounding area, creating a green network and supporting low-carbon development.
“I will have an audience soon with Johor’s Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar to get His Majesty’s consent to name the project after him,” he said.
